Stand By For "IDon": Don Omar Peers into the Future

May 6th, 2009 - latina.com
Stand By For "IDon": Don Omar Peers into the Future Did I say my reggaeton days were over? Don Omar has just released IDon (Machete Records), his first studio album in three years, and I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic for my “Dale Don Dale” days. But alas, the Boricua superstar has evolved and so must I.

The record documents his transformation into a half-man/half-machine being. It takes listeners on what is being touted as a “futuristic” trip through different musical genres (rock, electronica, hip-hop, ballad).

Check out this 10-minute video for “The Chosen” and “Virtual Diva” in which a sexy blonde scientist oversees his mutation into a cybernetic creature as the Don writhes on an operating table. The experiment goes wrong and halfway through the short film, IDon turns the statuesque diva into a bionic woman capable of “burning transistors.”

Though “The Chosen” has more of a rock edge, “Virtual Diva” finds us in more familiar reggaeton territory. I for one was ready to get up and dance.
