Dominican Republic reggaeton singer charged with vehicular homicide

DOMINGO -- Dominican rapper and reggaeton singer El Lapiz was charged with running over and killing a man in Santo Domingo province, the Listin Diario newspaper reported in its online edition.El Lapiz, whose real name is Avelino Junior Figuereo Rodriguez, allegedly hit Adriano Martinez Gonzalez with his SUV on Dec. 7.
Martinez Gonzalez later died at a Santo Domingo hospital and his son, Michael Ariel Martinez, filed charges against the singer.
The 25-year-old El Lapiz is one of the most popular hip hop and reggaeton singers in the Dominican Republic, where he has performed with such stars as Daddy Yankee, Residente Calle 13 and Hector El Father.
The singer's music has stirred up a storm in this Caribbean nation, where critics accuse him of promoting sex, violence and drug use in his songs.
